Scholarships And Job Opportunities

It is that time of the year when our education system releases thousands of young graduates, and the “other system”( employers) starts the search for brilliant young minds to join their teams. Find below a couple of job opportunities to consider, and scholarship programs if you are interested in further study.

1. Standard Chartered Bank’s Fast Track ProgramStandard Chartered Bank is looking for young graduates to join their management trainee program in several African countries, including Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Uganda, and several international locations.

The  12-month Fast Track Programme (18 months in certain markets) is an accelerated programme that aims to nurture your capabilities towards a career as a world-class banker.From the frontline of sales and service, you’ll develop the skills and knowledge required to be the face of Standard Chartered. This will enable you to build strong relationships with our customers to grow their wealth and meet their banking needs, and to understand the importance of the brand promise of Here for good whilst also contributing to the financial performance of the Bank.

This is the right program for you if you answer yes to the following questions:

Entry requirements are as follows:

  • An undergraduate degree, any discipline
  • The legal right to work in the country for which you are applying

2. Total Kenya Graduate Management Trainee Program

Total Kenya is looking for young dynamic graduates who have  a minimum Upper 2nd Class Honours’ degree from recognized institutions within the last two (2) years in any of the following disciplines;

·         Civil, Mechanical, Electrical or Mechatronic Engineering or related disciplines;

·         Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing, Finance, Accounting, Business Administration,

·         Human Resources, Communications, Laws (LLB) or related business fields;

·         Candidates with additional qualifications will have an added advantage.

In addition, candidates should have the following attributes:

·         Intellectually curious and a self-starter;

·         Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;

·         Team player and leadership qualities;

·         Must also be computer literate.

3. KCB Employee Programmes: KCB has several employee programs:

–  The KCB Group Internship Program: This offers opportunities for a  selected number of outstanding students who are passionate about the banking industry. They train the interns on how to to recognize opportunities, take the initiative, give back to the community, and lay solid foundations for their careers.

– The KCB Group Management Trainees Program: This program gives graduates hands on banking experience by assigning participants to different roles within the Bank. Opportunities are available to complete business-driven projects during the placement or to specialize in a particular area, such as Customer Service, Retail Banking, Marketing and Corporate Services among others. The program offers a competitive entry-level graduate salary and job placement opportunities at one of our Divisions upon successful completion.

– The KCB Group Management Trainee Program: This program is open to high caliber talent who possess a Master’s Degree or an MBA. The two-year Management Trainee Program provides participants with challenging opportunities within the Bank with the aim of further developing their management skills set.

The KCB Group Management Exchange Program: This is part of the Talent Management Framework, developed in 2007 to accelerate the development of high potential talent through exposure to development roles in the Group companies. Through this program, employees are able to:

  1. Enhance their expertise through skills transfer across the Group Companies
  2. Build broad based cross cultural experience
  3. Gain further exposure to development opportunities across the Group Companies

 

The following scholarship programmess could also be of interest:

1. The ALB Scholarship Programme: The Foundation For African Leadership in Business offers scholarships to qualified residents of Africa who wish to obtain an MBA through one of their partner universities. Scholarship comes with great responsibility, and as such, ALB scholarships are offered as part of the ALB Fellowship Program.

Eligibility:

To qualify for the ALB Fellowship Program, applicants should demonstrate the following through their application:

  • A commitment to returning to their country after program completion
  • Strong professional background, including 3 or more years of work experience
  • Strong academic background, including completion of a Bachelor degree or equivalent
  • High competency in written and spoken English
  • Acceptance to an MBA program
  • Completion of the GMAT exam
  • All other requirements for admission to the partner school program

Eligibility for scholarships is merit and need based.

Student Responsibility:

Fellows are expected to serve as representatives of their country, the African continent, and the ALB Foundation throughout their program and ongoing professional career. To ensure that the ALB goals are being pursued throughout the MBA program, all ALB Fellows complete the ALB Fellowship Project, which involves the group development of an entrepreneurial business plan to be implemented in the Fellow’s home country. Additionally, all ALB Fellows are expected to commit to returning to their home country following graduation, and remaining there to work for a minimum of two years.

2. The United States International University – Africa Academic Scholarships: USIU has the following scholarship opportunities for its students:

1. USIU Full Academic Scholarships: Given to one male and one female candidate for undergraduate study. This scholarship covers tuition, room and board and lab fees beginning September 2014.

2. Partial Academic Scholarship: Given to one male and one female candidate for undergraduate study, this scholarship covers tuition only.

3. Scholarship for the physically challenged: Full tuition scholarships for two students who use orthopedic appliances for movement. This scholarship covers tuition only.

4. Scholarship for underrepresented communities: Two slots for full tuition scholarships for undergraduate students from Arid and Semi Arid areas in Kenya, and one similar application from an undergraduate student from informal settlements around USIU.
