Cheese??

Last month’s Book Club read was John C Maxwell’s 21 Irrefutable Laws Of Leadership. Fantastic book, I feel I read it too fast to meet the deadline, rereading it, then will do a review.

The current read is Dr Spencer Johnson’s Who Moved My Cheese. This 39 pager has been on my ‘to read’ list for a really long time, and almost jumped for joy when it was announced at the book club meeting.

I’ve just finished reading it (took me about 2 hours in between work), and I’m suprised that a seemingly general book would be so profound especially in my personal life where I had been having a ‘Who Moved My Cheese’ period.

Who Moved My Cheese is a book that tells a fable about two mice, and two little people, and how they dealt with change, when they found that the cheese they greatly enjoyed was no more. The whole book was profound, but I share a couple of points below:

  • When you change what you believe, you change what you do
  • The fastest way to change is to realise your folly, laugh at yourself and move on
  • Keep life simple. Don’t over analyze or over complicate things. When the situation changes, move on
  • There’s always new better cheese out there whether you recognise it at the time or not
  • The longer you stay in a cheeseless situation, the weaker you become, and the harder it becomes to move on

What is your cheese? Is it your job? A bad relationship? A behaviour you need to unlearn?
